All About Lizzie Brown

From her garden studio in Lincoln, Lizzie makes contemporary hand made ceramic tiles and a range of decorative porcelain giftware such as candleholders, coasters, jewellery and buttons.


'My inspiration is 'organic form'. The relief image in each piece is created by impressing clay into hand made plaster moulds. The moulds are made using a variety of plants, fruits and vegetables such as, apples, pears, chillies, cabbages, asparagus, beans and peas. Soft fruit and vegetables are frozen to make them hard enough to produce a mould. I use a wide range of glazes which are developed from my own recipes and experiments with glaze materials. Some pieces have two or three glazes applied and may be fired more than once in order to achieve a particular effect.' Since gaining her B.A.(hons) Degree in Fine Art, Lizzie has worked both as a lecturer and a practising artist/maker. Her work is sold through a large number of galleries and shops including Thoresby Gallery, The Cooper Gallery, The Ropewalk, Serena Hall Gallery and Harding House. Her tiles appeared in a featured article in the March 2009 issue of Tile UK magazine.
